? How To Make Ham Steaks

All you have to do is pan-sear your ham steaks and then make the glaze (yes, it's that easy)! You'll need a large skillet, some tongs or a spatula, and your measuring spoons.

As written, this recipe is for 2 servings. However, you could easily cook a second 8-ounce ham steak and have enough glaze!

    1. Brown. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook an 8-ounce ham steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until lightly browned. Then, remove the ham from the skillet and drain any fat.
    2. Melt butter. In the same skillet, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat and then stir in 5 tablespoons of brown sugar.
    3. Dissolve the sugar. Return the browned ham to the skillet and cook until the brown sugar has dissolved (about 10 minutes), making sure to turn the ham often so it can be fully coated in the glaze.
    4. Serve. Remove the ham from the skillet and serve immediately.

This ham is incredibly versatile and can be paired with so many things! Check out this list of what to serve with ham for some tasty recipe ideas! Enjoy!

    ? Angela's Tips & Recipe Notes

    • Alternatively, you can melt the butter in the pan, add your ham steaks, sprinkle the brown sugar over the top of the ham, flip, and sprinkle more brown sugar on the other side while cooking.
    • You can use 1-2 ham steaks with this recipe. If you need to make more than that, simply make more glaze!
    • Make sure your skillet is fully heated before adding your ham steak in order to get it nicely browned and crisp on the outside!
    • Use your leftovers on a salad, in soup, on a sandwich, in a breakfast casserole, in a quiche, or anything else you like! Take a look at these leftover ham recipes!

    ? Storing & Reheating

Allow the ham to cool completely and then put it into a container and keep it in the fridge for up to 4 days.

To freeze, tightly wrap your ham steaks and freeze them for up to 2 months.

    Reheating Ham Steaks

You can reheat your ham steaks in the microwave or on the stovetop with a little bit of butter!

    ? FAQ

Does Ham Steak Need To Be Cooked?

Typically, you'll find ham steak pre-cooked and you can eat it cold just like lunch meat. However, that doesn't mean you can't heat it up and add a sweet glaze to it!

Why Did My Ham Steak Glaze Harden?

If your glaze hardens, you probably have your heat up too high. You'll want to use either medium or medium-low heat to achieve a low simmer.

Why Is My Ham Steak Tough?

Remember that ham steaks come pre-cooked. You're essentially just warming it up. So, you don't want to overcook the meat. Keep it in the skillet just long enough to brown it and then for about 10 minutes once the sauce gets started.
